Interzoo 2024 proved to be a great success for companies in the global pet food industry
In May 2024, Interzoo, the world's leading trade fair for the pet industry, provided a comprehensive overview of innovative products and concepts for manufacturers, suppliers and buyers of pet food. Also, the 38th Interzoo confirmed its importance as a key meeting place for the international pet food industry.
In total, more than 1,500 out of the 2,150 exhibitors at Interzoo 2024 showcased products and innovations within the petfood segment, marking a notable increase from the previous event. The highest number of petfood-related products was shown in the segment of food, snacks and treats for cats and dogs while the highest increase compared to previous events could be found in the segment of petfood technology. Petfood also captured substantial visitor attraction, with 28 percent of the 37,000 trade visitors expressing a particular interest in the petfood technology sector.
“Interzoo offers a multitude of approaches towards current petfood trends: From new products and innovative concepts presented at the Fresh Ideas Stage to expert discussions of opportunities in packaging, manufacturing and overall sustainability at the Petfood Forum Europe – it’s all wrapped up in one week of the year", says Dr Rowena Arzt, Head of Exhibition at Interzoo organizer WZF.
A topic that is currently causing quite a stir in the petfood industry and led to exciting product presentations at Interzoo is the use of alternative protein sources. On the opening day, a German brand presented a vegan snack for dogs made from cultured protein, which was developed in collaboration with a Californian company. Also, industry judges recognised a product from this future-oriented segment: A Dutch start-up won the second place in the Fresh Ideas Contest with their dry, plant-based dog food.
Another testament to Interzoo’s role in the pet food sector is Petfood Forum Europe, held just one day prior to Interzoo 2024 and collocated for the second time with WATT Global Media. The one-day conference brought together 300 international attendees from across the entire pet food supply chain. Keynote speakers and innovators provided valuable insights into the latest trends, research, and innovations driving the industry forward.
Interzoo will continue to put the spotlight on petfood in 2025 with the second edition of the Interzoo Pavilion at Petfood Forum 2025 (28-30 April 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri). The Pavilion is a great opportunity to strengthen global business relationships and to establish and expand important industry contacts.
