Discover the Interzoo location Nuremberg: The Franconian brewing tradition
Trade fairs make thirsty: Experience the world's most comprehensive range of products and services in the pet industry and attend exciting short conferences at Interzoo from 7 to 10 May 2024 and make sure to also discover the great tradition of the Interzoo location in Nuremberg. After all, the Franconian metropolis is known for its long tradition of beer brewing.
Nuremberg has been an important brewing city for centuries, whether light, dark, genuine red beer or the respective non-alcoholic varieties – something to suit every taste. The best-known and most popular breweries include Tucher Traditionsbrauerei, Hausbrauerei Altstadthof and Schanzenbräu.
A particular highlight of the city with great historic relevance to this beer tradition is the huge amount of historic rock tunnels, some of which have been driven up to four levels deep into the Nuremberg castle sandstone. For centuries they have served as a cool storage place for the fine refreshments made from hops and malt. Nuremberg Tourism offers a guided tour through the rock corridors below the Old Town.
However, it's not just the people of Nuremberg who have a very strong bond with ‘their’ beer, but also the inhabitants of the whole region. Franconia has the highest density of breweries in the world. More than 300 breweries call Upper Franconia their home – a fact that has earned the region the nickname ‘Land of 1,000 beers’! You can book a tour of the beer history with tasting via Nuremberg Tourism.
However, Nuremberg is not only proud of its past, but also of its innovative strength in present years. The craft beer scene in the region has developed gradually, with creative brewers exploring new flavours and styles.
Our tip: The best place to enjoy a fresh Franconian beer is in one of the city's many pubs, beer gardens or beer cellars - and of course the green atrium at the Nuremberg Exhibition Centre between Halls 1 and 9.
